SUPER SEA WOLF GMT BLUEBERRY LIMITED EDITIONOctober 7, 2022 6:19 pm
In the 1960s the Aerospace GMT was Zodiac’s entry into a new genre of watches for travelers, commercial pilots, and the otherwise jet set. Built off of the Sea Wolf format, the Aerospace featured a 24-hour bakelite bezel with a split insert, a more formal dial design, and, of course, a fourth hand on the dial for tracking a second-time zone (three with the bezel). In the Spring of 2019 Zodiac brought the design back in a series of limited editions that sold out in a flash, becoming a modern cult hit. The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT “Blueberry” is the newest limited edition in this line.
Like the original, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT is built off of a diver format, featuring a 40mm case with a sapphire crystal and 200m water resistance. A slight change is present in the brushed lugs which feature a sharp, polished bevel for a more formal and elegant look. Additionally, the bezel has been switched to a bi-directional mechanism with 24-clicks. The dial speaks to that of the original Aerospace, with applied markers and blocky hands for a mix of dress and sport.
The “Blueberry” version balances an aquatic palette with vintage style. The dial is pure black for a classic appeal with applied markers indicating the hours along with lumed strips for visibility at night. A date window at three reveals a color-matched date disk, keeping the inky black solid. The bezel adds some color with two tones of blue. On top, a bright blue inspired by sunlight as seen underwater. On the bottom, a dark navy blue speaks to the depths below. The “Blueberry” is mounted to a dark blue suede strap, tying together the vintage and aquatic themes.
Inside of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT “Blueberry” is the Soprod C-125. This Swiss-made movement is a 25-jewel automatic with date, independent 24-hour hand, hand-winding, 42-hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,880 bph (beats per hour), and hacking seconds (the second-hand stops when the crown is pulled out).
