Squale is an independent Swiss brand founded in Neuchâtel by Charles Von Büren in 1959 and, since the 1980s, owned by the Maggi family—first under the leadership of Elisio and later his son Andrea. With Swiss mechanics and components, the brand offers a catalog of around ten models, most of which are undisputed icons in the history of professional dive watches. Squale timepieces have been worn by legendary free divers such as Giuliana "Jolly" Treleani, Jean Tapu, Enzo Maiorca, and Jacques Mayol. Between the 1960s and 1980s, Squale was also a key supplier to at least thirty other brands, including high-end ones, with its logo placed at 6 o’clock on the dial as a mark of water resistance and reliability. Today, these models are highly sought after by collectors worldwide, just like the more recent special editions made for the Italian Armed Forces. Among the most notable are those created for the Folgore Paratroopers, Carabinieri, State Police, Navy, and Comsubin Frogmen.
